Detroit Man Dies at home of son John A. Byrne, formerly of South Bay, passes away here John A Byrne, of Detroit, Mich., native of South Bay, passed away at 11:15 this morning at the home of his son, Kenneth J. Byrne, 914 N. James Street. He came to this city on a visit two weeks ago and was taken ill last Saturday. Mr. Byrne had been in failing health for the past two years. Born in South Bay 55 years ago, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Byrne, he moved to Syracuse when a young man and lived in that city for many years. He went to Detroit from Syracuse 14 years ago and had since resided there. Mr. Byrne was a black smith, learning his trade from his father who was also a blacksmith. He was a member of Visitation Church of Detroit. Besides his wife, who was formerly Miss Marcella Dunn, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth of this city and John H. of Detroit, and one sister, Mrs. John Ayres of Brooklyn. Mrs. Byrne was notified of her husband’s illness and immediately left for this city arriving here Sunday. She was at his bedside when death came.

Funeral services held for John A. Byrne Funeral services were held this morning for John A. Byrne at 9 o’clock from the home of his son, Kenneth J. Byrne, 914 N. James Street, and 9:30 at St. Mary’s Church. A solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Paul L. Hemmer, assistant pastor, assisted by Rev. Jerome F. McCarthy, pastor of St. Francis’s Church of Durhamville, as deacon, and Rev. Francis J. Zimmer, assistant pastor of St. John of Baptist Church , as sub-deacon. Rev. George S. Heisler, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, was in the sanctuary. The bearers were Francis Doran, Dwight Wilson, James Lauer, Harry Gerwig, Edward Real and Frank Havens. The profusion of flowers included pieces from Office Employees of Rome Company, the F. W. Smith Co., of Detroit, Mich., relatives and friends in Rome and Detroit. Interment was made at Irish Ridge cemetery.


Eternal rest grant unto him, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
