WILLIAMS W. WELLS, Old Canal Boatman, Dies
Durhamville, July 8 – William W. Wells, boatman on the old Erie Canal, passed away Monday night after a lingering illness. Born in the town of Oswego in 1861, the family moved to Durhamville when he was a boy. For the better part of 30 years, Wells worked on canal boats . Ten years ago, he retired to accept a position in an Oneida manufacturing plant. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. LeRoy Allen and Miss Mamie Wells, at home; two sons, Francis and B. J. Wells, both of Durhamville, and five grandchildren.
NOTE: Obit has year of birth 1861 but stone shows 1860.
Eternal rest grant unto him, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
